So, the other day I was looking for a recipe for an almond cake made with ground almonds as the flour, that I remembered seeing somewhere, on someone's blog. As I was searching I ran into Cafe' Nilson's blog. Here is the gist of the entry that captured my attention.
The San Diego Fair, which used to be called the Del Mar Fair, takes place every summer in – yes that's right – Del Mar, CA. There are many food vendors at this fair, but this blogger writes about one – Chicken Charlie's, home of the totally fried anything. I urge you to take a look at the blog so that you can see the pictures of fried everything. Let's see, frog legs (not so bizarre), Zucchini Weenies (hmmm), Deep Fried Avocado with Pesto (seems reasonable) – but wait – Krispy Kreme Chicken Sandwich? Kookie Cookie Chicken Sandwich. These are just a few. Fried Oreos anyone? Fried Twinkies? (sorry, Samantha, no fried Tastycakes.) I found all of this so incredibly crazy that I searched for information on Chicken Charlie – I mean really, what kind of a nut is he? Well, apparently his frying frenzy has made him a millionaire nut.
I found this article on ABC news about him and I encourage you to read this story also. Please let me know if fried coco-cola or marinated spam in chardonnay (deep fried, of course) is now on your list of must-tries. In the meantime, I suggest you have your cholesterol checked after reading this!
Dub and I tried a fried Oreo at the Tulip Festival a few years ago. One bite and I was done!

Serveral yrs back the mn state fair started a fried candy bar craze,(snickers, etc,on a stick no less)I think I also had one bite of one of those things, and never tried it again.
Now days I know I'd get terrible ill, if I would have fried anything, so that's a good thing.
